This past Saturday I attended an event for reality star Trina Braxton with Kristina Gaskin, whom I an intern for, and her friend/colleague and Street Attics owner, Crystal. The event was my very first professional networking opportunity and I must say, though I was nervous, it turned out to be a great experience; it was a fun event as well. I always enjoy being in environments related to fashion and seeing how everyone has dressed for the occasion. There were quite a few trends that I was able to spot, like moto jackets (which I can’t get enough of right now), punk and rock n roll influenced outfits (leather was everywhere), dressed up crop tops, and fall colored separates.
One major lesson I learned about attending events such as this, is to go in without nerves. Anxiety will reflect no matter how hard you try not to, especially if pictures are being taken. I also learned that a lot of these events aren’t so “formal and professional.” It’s a chance to meet people in their element, which allows them to get a hold on your personality. Leaving a positive impression can lead to a professional relationship that can be built up.
The event planner and others involved in making it a success deserve a big kudos. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned a lot. Not to mention I had the pleasure of meeting and taking a picture with Jasmine Guy.
